Folks Of The Air Series - Holly Black (The cruel prince, The wicked king & The queen of nothing)

Updated: Aug 8, 2022

Hello everyone!! Hope you're all well and surviving school and exams.

This post is going to be on The folks of the air series, I actually just said that in the title so I don't understand why I'm saying it again but never mind, let's goooo.

Ratings:

Genre: YA fantasy + a LITTLE BIT of romance

Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Age Rating: from 12 yo/ "mature reader" or 13/14 yo + Can also be appreciated by adults

For which kind of reader?: I think these books are "easy-read" ones. I recommend it for readers who want to start reading in English or readers who want: adventure, battles/war, Fae story ;) and politics (yes...)

I DO NOT think these books will be completely appreciated by readers who like a lot of romance, of course, there IS a love story (#enemiestolovers) but it is not the main theme.

My opinion

THESE BOOKS OMG. This trilogy is one of my all time favorite, I read it last summer in a week and I think about it every day... (#exaggeration)

The story is so incredible and easy to understand, the writer's style is beautiful and the reader is never bored. The characters are amazingly developed and improved throughout the book, they have a well-defined personality and are endearing.

Summary

Jude is seven years old when she and her sisters get kidnapped by a Fae who killed their parents and pretended to be Jude's older sister, Vivienne's dad.

He brings them back to Elfhame, the kingdom of Faeries, where he raises them as killers and warriors. They get an education at the royal school and therefor get close to the royal family who's got a lot to hide and too much to lose.

I cannot tell you anymore, because I am like Tom Holland, I spoil everything without even realizing it...

I can just say one thing, this book is going to keep you up at night and prevent you from doing your homework, you will always want to know more: Will she? How? NO! What?!?

Your brain is going to be full of faeries by the end of book one. Full of questions at the end of book two and full of happiness and despair at the end of book 3, because, of course, you will want more.

(Actually there IS more, if ever you are REALLY desperate there is:

- The lost sisters

and

- How the king of Elhame learned to hate stories)

The cruel prince - Blurb

Of course I want to be like them. They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe. One terrible morning, Jude and her sisters see their parents murdered in front of them. The fearsome assassin abducts all three girls and brings them to the world of Faerie. Mocked and tormented for being merely mortal, Jude soon realises that to survive in the treacherous, dangerous world of the royal court, she needs to be as cunning and deceitful as the Fey themselves. But the stairway to power is fraught with shadows and betrayal. And looming over all is the arrogant and charismatic Prince Cardan.
